adidas and CBS Sports Network Announce Grassroots Basketball Television Partnership

CBS Sports Network to Air Live Championship Games of adidas Invitational, adidas Super 64 and adidas Nations

PORTLAND, Ore. (May 19, 2011) – adidas and CBS Sports Network today announced a television partnership to air live three adidas grassroots basketball championship games. The partnership includes telecasts of the adidas Invitational from Indianapolis, Ind. on Sunday, July 10 (8:00 PM, ET), adidas Super 64 from Las Vegas, Nev. on Tuesday, July 26 (8:00 PM, ET)  and adidas Nations championship games from Los Angeles, Calif. on Monday, August 8 (7:00 PM, ET), as well as a one-hour highlight show on CBS Sports on Sunday, August 7 (12:00 NOON-1:00 PM, ET).    

“We’re excited to partner with CBS Sports Network and bring adidas’ elite high school basketball events to millions of viewers across the country on television and online, “ said Lawrence Norman, adidas vice president of Global Basketball. “Our programs feature the game’s next superstars and we’re thrilled to showcase this high-level of basketball to viewers all across America.”

Former stand-out players at these tournaments include Jrue Holiday (Philadelphia 76ers), Eric Gordon (Los Angeles Clippers), Michael Beasley (Minnesota Timberwolves), Serge Ibaka (Oklahoma City Thunder), Brook Lopez (New Jersey Nets) and Mario Chalmers (Miami HEAT). 

In addition, MaxPreps.com, the leading online high school sports network, will provide full coverage of the adidas grassroots summer circuit.  Users can view feature videos, photos and stories from all the adidas elite high school basketball events by visiting www.maxpreps.com.

In its second year, the adidas Invitational is a four-day grassroots basketball tournament with more than 300 teams. In 2010, it featured several high school All-Americans and top ranked recruits including LeBryan Nash (Lincoln HS/Dallas, Texas), Cody Zeller (Washington HS/Washington Ind.), Chane Benahan (Bowling Green HS/Bowling Green, Ken.) and Marshall Plumlee (Christ HS/Warsaw Ind.).   

The adidas Super 64 is in its eight year and one of the most prestigious AAU summer tournaments. More than 500 boys and girls teams compete in the five-day event and former participants include Derrick Favors (Utah Jazz), James Harden (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Darren Collison (Indiana Pacers).   

adidas Basketball closes out the summer with adidas Nations, the premier international grassroots basketball program. Now in its fifth year, the world’s elite 18-and-under players from nine international teams including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, US 2012 and US 2013 will train and compete in the prestigious annual program and tournament. Current NBA players, highly esteemed NBA veterans and collegiate players join the global program as head coaches, mentors and camp counselors.
