BIG BATS HIGHLIGHT FOX’S AFTERNOON MLB SLATE – Returning to its afternoon timeslot, the FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK presents three National League matchups on Saturday, June 4 (4:00 PM ET). Two classic, Midwest rivals meet as Albert Pujols and the Cardinals welcome the Cubs to St. Louis. Out west, the Giants continue to adjust to life without Buster Posey. The defending champs are still in the thick of the NL West race and host Carlos Gonzalez and the potent Rockies. Things have calmed down a bit in Los Angeles and the Dodgers have been playing better baseball. Andre Ethier and a surging Matt Kemp lead the boys in blue into Cincinnati to face NL HR and RBI-leader Jay Bruce and the Reds. The MLB on FOX pregame originates live from the AT&T Park in San Francisco, with host Chris Rose. Once game action begins, Rose joins Kenny Albert and Mark Grace as a field reporter.

MOROSI: TWINS CAN’T RISK LOSING MAUER LONG-TERM – Injuries have limited Joe Mauer to just nine games for the Minnesota Twins this season. As FOXSports.com national MLB writer Jon Paul Morosi points out, the last place Twins must consider the long-term with Mauer. “I can’t see the wisdom in him putting on a chest protector again this year. The player is too valuable. The season is too hopeless. Any cost/benefit analysis comes down on the side of Mauer doing anything but catch for the Twins between now and October,” said Morosi. “At the core of this issue is that Mauer is in the first season of an eight-year, $184 million extension. Mauer is 28 now. He will be 35 when the contract expires. He is a long-term asset, at a time when short-term performance is of little overall benefit. There is inherent risk when a team’s franchise player is its everyday catcher. I’m not suggesting Mauer should give up catching for good. I am saying he shouldn’t catch again this year. That’s an important distinction.”

2011 NASCAR ON FOX SEASON FINALE THIS SUNDAY – Memorial Day weekend provided the drama as Kevin Harvick nipped Dale Earnhardt, Jr. at the end to capture the Coca-Cola 600. This week, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway on Sunday, June 5 (12:30 PM ET) for the final race of the 2011 NASCAR on FOX season. Kevin Harvick, the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins leader, has perfected the art of closing. In his three victories in 2011, Harvick has led only a combined nine laps and Dale Jr. has most often been his target. At Martinsville, Harvick swiped the lead away from Jr. with four laps remaining. Last Sunday, he won his first Charlotte points race, again snatching the lead from Earnhardt – this time on the final lap. Will Sunday’s race come down to these two warriors again?
NASCAR on FOX prerace show host by Chris Myers looks for the answers. The prerace show, which also features analysts Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Hammond, airs live from the infield and includes updates from drivers, crewmen and officials shaping the day’s action. Once the green flag drops, the voice of NASCAR Mike Joy is alongside analysts Waltrip and Larry McReynolds to call all the twists and turns on the track while Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes, Krista Voda and Matt Yocum patrol the pits for reports on teams and pit stops.
LARRY MAC: RACING SURFACE IN KANSAS KEEPS DRIVERS GUESSING – NASCAR on FOX esteemed race analyst and former crew chief Larry McReynolds points to the challenges drivers will face this Sunday afternoon from Kansas Speedway. “The small degree of banking this track has makes it much tougher than other mile and a half tracks when handling the car 190mph into the corners,” said McReynolds. The extreme climate in Kansas City, KS is another issue that takes its toll on the track. “The hot summers and cold bitter winters experienced in Kansas further deteriorate the racing surface. Every time we go there, this track has lost grip and seems to develop more and more bumps. That is another huge handling adjustment for these drivers.”
NEW CONTEST FORMAT TO ROCK MALOOF MONEY CUP NYC SKATEBOARD STANDINGS THIS WEEKEND – This year the Maloof Money Cup skateboard contest debuts an all-new contest format for the pro finals. The contest, telecast live on FUEL TV Saturday, June 4 (4:00 PM ET) and Sunday, June 5 (4:00 PM ET), will feature head-to-head competition between the skaters in the pro finals that could mix up the standings ($160,000 up for grabs for first place). Pat Parnell, host of FUEL TV’s The Daily Habit says that the new format is going to change things up. “I think Ryan Decenzo, Sierra Fellers and Andrew Reynolds all stand a solid chance. Reynolds is coming off the heels of winning the Transworld Skateboarding Magazine Best Video Part and admittedly is hungry to do well,” said Parnell. FUEL TV commentator Ryan Clements thinks Cory Kennedy has the best shot at victory. “It’s really a tough call on who’s going to win but if Kennedy can keep it under control and not get stuck working on the most impossible trick ever, he’s got a shot at it just based on skill alone,” said Clements.
