PGA TOUR’s New Generation Highlighted in CBS Sports Special
PGA TOUR 2011: The Future is Now presented by Mercedes-Benz airs Saturday, July 9
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The PGA TOUR’s next generation of stars is becoming the now generation, in light of the growing number of young players contending in and winning tournaments. Midway through the 2011 season, nine players in their 20s, including four rookies, have been victorious on the PGA TOUR.
This newest wave of rising stars, as well as those from past generations, will be showcased in PGA TOUR 2011: The Future is Now presented by Mercedes-Benz, a one-hour CBS Sports special produced by PGA TOUR Entertainment, airing Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m. ET. These players have helped define golf’s landscape, and this current collection is unique in the athleticism and style that they have brought to professional golf, including:
· Dustin Johnson, 27, a four-time PGA TOUR winner and a true athlete who chose golf, playing with power and skill that easily would adapt to the fields or hard courts of other sports.
· Rickie Fowler, 22, the 2010 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, a highly skilled player who grew up as a motor-crosser and brings a unique look and style to the game.
· Nick Watney, 30, a quiet, yet highly talented player who was shaped by his humble beginnings in North Central California.
· Rory McIlroy, 22, who just became the youngest U.S. Open champion since Bobby Jones (’23).
· Graeme McDowell, 31, the 2010 U.S. Open winner from Northern Ireland, and a rising international star.
· Jhonattan Vegas, 26, a burly rookie with a captivating smile who brings a Latin flair from his home country of Venezuela. Vegas was victorious in just his second tournament this season.
These players hail from all corners of the globe and all walks of life, and are all making their mark on the PGA TOUR. See them as never before in PGA TOUR 2011: The Future is Now presented by Mercedes-Benz, Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m. ET.
