ESPN announces hoops tournament brackets

ESPN Announces Brackets for College Basketball Events
 
ESPN Regional Television (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN, announced the 2011 matchups of its five owned and operated men’s college basketball events: Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant; Puerto Rico Tip-Off; 76 Classic; Old Spice Classic; and Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. The schedule for each event is listed by date below, and all games will be aired in high definition.
 
Puerto Rico Tip-Off
The Puerto Rico Tip-Off, played at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in the cosmopolitan Hato Rey district of San Juan, will take place Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 17, 18 & 20. The fifth annual tip-off will include Alabama, Colorado, Iona, Maryland, Purdue, Temple, Western Michigan and Wichita State. The tournament features a highly competitive field with seven of the eight teams having advanced to postseason play. ESPNU will televise five games, while ESPN2 will carry three, including the championship contest.

Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant
The fourth annual Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant, held at Carolina First Arena in historic Charleston, S.C., will be played Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 17, 18 & 20. The tournament field will include Georgia Tech, LSU, Northwestern, Saint Joseph’s, Seton Hall, Tulsa, Virginia Commonwealth and Western Kentucky. In 2011, VCU made a magical run through the NCAA Championship, advancing to the national semifinal game. Five of the 12 games will be carried on ESPNU.

76 Classic
The 76 Classic will be held Thanksgiving week, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 24, 25 & 27, at the Anaheim Convention Center adjacent to Disneyland. The fifth annual classic will include Boston College, UC Riverside, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Saint Louis, Santa Clara, Villanova and Washington State. Five of the eight teams reached the 2011 postseason, including the NCAA Championship, NIT and CollegeInsider.com Tournament. Eleven of the 12 games will be televised nationally with ESPNU and ESPN2 splitting the majority of the games.

Old Spice Classic
The Old Spice Classic will be held at the HP Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla., on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 24, 25 & 27. The sixth annual classic will feature Arizona State, Dayton, DePaul, Fairfield, Indiana State, Minnesota, Texas Tech and Wake Forest. Three teams advanced to postseason play in the NCAA Championship and NIT. ESPN2 will air the majority of the Old Spice Classic, including the entire opening day and the championship game. A total of 11 games will be televised on ESPN networks.

Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic
The third installment of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic will be played around the Christmas holiday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Dec. 22, 23 & 25, at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. This paradise escape hosted by Hawaii includes Auburn, Clemson, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Southern Illinois, UTEP and Xavier. Six teams in the field participated in 2011 postseason including three NCAA Championship berths. ESPNU will be the primary home of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, in addition to ESPN2 carrying three games.
