Fathers And Dads

by: @wwwgabecom

As you all well know, we all got dads. Some we know of, some we don’t. But the question is, how many of us actually have fathers? If you don’t know the difference its pretty simple, a dad is basically just the sperm donor and is good for nothing more than just a phone call few times a year, if that. While a father on the other hand is a real man, an actual father to his kids. He gives them advice when they need it, even when they think they don’t, and is Physically there for them.

The sad thing about us minorities is that its become common and to only have momma duke around. Anytime I hear some of my friends still live with both of their parents I’m actually surprised and its sad that it has got to this point. I mean, I know my pops, well I know who he is, but the person I’ve been living with my entire life has been my mother and i consider her both mom and dad.

Why? Well What’s the fathers job in the family? To provide for his family and protect and be there for them. I don’t know how I would live with myself if i were to get older and I’m not there for my family and my kids. if I’m going to have a kid, then I’m going to be a father to them, not just that dude that comes around every once in a while.

Some dudes now who are reading his may already be dads. Some may have been planned some of them may have not been, but that time has passed, it’s time to take on your new role. It’s never easy but you gotta do what has to be done, because it isn't about you anymore and that’s what i think the difference between a father and a dad is.

PS… I give much props to the single mothers that raise men on their own. They don’t get enough credit.

Why Beat Me?

by @Urnotcute

I've always heard adults say if you don't beat your children you don't love them. To me you can never get your point a cross to your child by beating them in such a harsh manner. I understand discipline but when is the line drawn? I remember when I used to get spanked. I hated my parents right away. I truly believe if I had never gotten those spankings, my parents and I would be closer. Sometimes parents don't know where to draw the line with discipline. That is why some children end up looking like this after a beating:

A child is suppose to love their parents. A child is suppose to look up to their parents. A child is suppose to feel like they can tell their parents anything. A child should not have to fear their parents.

A Mother states:
I have a 19 yr old in College, never had to beat him, always respectful. I also have a 15 yr old that I’ve never beat preparing for college, and a 10 yr old who wants to become a doctor. What works for you, works for you, but not everyone and not every child needs that type of physical discipline. My whole family believed in beatings, I didn't. They were always surprised with how my children behaved, yet they beat theirs and still had to tell them to sit down 50 times. I am strict. We have rules.

Use Beating only if its NECESSARY.

Parents On Twitter

By: @chicagoking

There is NO excuse for someone with a child to spend all day on a social networking site. While you are on Twitter all day seeing what topics are trending, where is your child? Sitting in the other room watching TV? You might think because your child is not in any harm that you are being a good parent, but it is quite the opposite. You are NEGLECTING that child. And for what? To speak to strangers thousands of miles away that you will never meet. It seems like recently parents have forgotten that their children are a priority, and not an option. There is NO excuse to ignore YOUR child for Internet strangers. It makes no type of sense.

Relatives vs Family

Have you ever let a relative that made you change, or tweak, your personal rules to accommodate them... simply because they were related? I know I used to. But since then I've had to ask, "Relative vs Family"... Is there a difference?

I've heard plenty of people say, "I'll do anything for my family," but never interchanged with the word relative... but why? Is one just easier to say than the other? I don't think so, I think its a much deeper meaning. The definitions for both are as follows:

Relative: a person related by bloodline or through marriage
Family: an association of people who share common beliefs or activities

To me, those are very different things. I don't consider every relative a member of my family anymore. I'm sure we all have people with blood relation to us that emotionally, we share ZERO ties with. You, yourself probably have a friend that knows your deepest darkest secrets, who you feel is closer to than most of your born-in Pedigree? What about in the case of the deadbeat parent who has abandoned their child. Are they still considered family simply because they are relatives? I think not.

Just because someone shares a bloodline, doesn't mean they won't cross you the wrong way and/or treat you any better than a stranger would. I've had people, with NO blood relation, that I call family that have looked out for me in my darkest hours when some of my relatives left me out to fend for myself; after putting me in a bad situation. I will not let the 'relative excuse' place me there ever again. Family should be earned and cherished; make sure those you do is a choice YOU make, not one you are stuck with.
