Light Drinking During Pregnancy Proven Okay

By: Alise (@Dreamaboutalise)

According to new research, studies have shown that one or two drinks during nine months of child bearing does not cause any risk to the baby.

Data was used from 11,513 children who were part of the U.K. Millennium Cohort Study. Mothers were surveyed on the amounts of alcohol they had during pregnancy and followed up with the children at ages 9 months, 3, and 5 years. During home visits, behavior assessments were done with the parents and cognitive tests were done on the children.

British scientists are saying children born to light drinkers are actually found to perform better on cognitive tests than from mothers who abstained entirely, but those differences were erased when socioeconomic status was taken into account.

The study results were published today (Oct. 5) in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, from the British Medical Journal.
