Most women wear the wrong size bra, and males are curious about how bra sizes work. For those of you that fit into this category, this article is for you.
- Measure your band size. Take a measuring tape and measure directly up under your bust like so.
If the band size is an odd number, go up to the nearest even number. - Measure your bust. Place the measuring tape around the fullest part of your breast.
- Finding your cup size. To find your cup size, subtract the band size from the bust size and for each inch over, go up the corresponding cup size. For example if your band size is 34 inches, and the bust size is 38. Subtract 34 from 38 which leaves you with four inches. Take those four inches then count A, B, C, D. This will make you a 34D.
- Try on bras. Remember all brands and styles of bras are made different so you need to try on different ones to see what's comfortable for you.
Because no bra is created equal, this measuring system is standard so that you can have a ballpark figure of where you may need to be. Fuller figured women cannot wear the same bra as a thinner woman. Playtex, Bali, Curvation, and Lane Bryant all have bras that have good support for fuller figures. I personally like Bali because they are soft and flexible. Thinner women can usually get away with pretty much everything. Also if you want a padded or push-up bra, then you may want to go up a cup size to prevent spillage.
